Man charged with breaking into Mormon temple, causing damage

Prosecutors have filed charges of mischief, burglary and other crimes against a southern Utah man accused of breaking into a Mormon temple in St. George over the weekend.

The Spectrum reports the man broke a window and entered The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police say in court records that 23-year-old Charles Gregory Logan smashed furniture and windows, wrestled with temple workers and struggled with police and security guards inside the building.

The damage was estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000.

He was booked into the Washington County jail but released after posting more than $16,000 bond.

Logan does not yet have a listed attorney or a publicly listed phone number where he could be reached for comment.

It’s unclear why Logan entered the temple.
