Army Corps of Engineers deployed to Jefferson County

A hydraulic engineer and civil engineer from the Walla Walla District Headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was deployed to Jefferson County Wednesday.

Emergency managers in Rigby requested help with emergency levee repairs.

High flow conditions are eroding a segment of the Heise-Roberts levee system, about 3.7 miles downstream from the U.S. 20 bridge.

Corps’ engineering experts will help assess the levee damage and determine appropriate emergency protective measures. They will also supervise construction-contract work to repair the levee.

Residents of the area are advised to keep close tabs on changing river, stream and weather conditions.

65 homes in the levee area near Lorenzo could be threatened.
