Idaho Falls man arrested after stolen car chase

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office reports a 27-year-old Idaho Falls man was arrested Wednesday night after deputies chased him in a stolen car and then on foot.

The incident began around 8:45 p.m. when deputies took a report of a stolen vehicle in the county.

Deputies later spotted the vehicle in the area of Boulevard and 17th St.

The deputy who followed the vehicle reports it pulled to the side of the road and stopped.

The deputy then pulled in behind the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the suspect driver who then sped away at a high rate of speed.

The suspect turned on to Calkins Dr. and ultimately collided with parked cars at the intersection of Calkins and 14th St.

The suspect fled the scene of the crash on foot and was apprehended a short distance away by an Idaho Falls Police Officer who had to utilize his tazer to subdue him.

The suspect was identified as Samuel E. Martin and was placed in custody.

After being cleared by Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center personnel, Martin was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for Misdemeanor Eluding and Obstructing an Officer and Felony Grand Theft.

There were no other injuries as a result of the crash.
