Idaho Falls baseball drops close game to Minico

The Idaho Falls Tigers saw an early exit from the state tournament Thursday evening.

A year after losing to Twin Falls in the state championship game, they couldn’t get the offense going against the dominant pitching from Drake Miller.

The Tigers could only get one run on six hits off of Miller.

The Tigers tight defense kept the game scoreless through the first four innings.

With one on and two out in the first Dillon Lenon raced towards the warning track and made a diving catch on a ball hit by Trey Smith to rob extra bases and a run.

In the third inning Cannon Thompson made a similar diving catch running towards the left field foul line for the first out with two runners on.

In the fourth inning, a pitch out was called for from the bench and the Tigers defense caught McKay Chandler sleeping and tagged him out.

Minico scored their two runs in the 5th on an RBI single to Drake Miller, and a sacrifice fly from Blaise Dennis.

In the 5th inning there was some controversy, Cadin White led off the bottom of the inning with a double.

On the very next pitch, Logan Ferguson popped one up to left field, where Carson Schow, Alan Ambriz and Blaise Dennis were giving chase, it looked like it landed on the chalk in the outfield.

Ferguson ended up at second with a double, with White holding up at third.

The third base umpire called the ball foul.

Ferguson was sent back to the plate where he struck out.

The Tigers did get an RBI single from Jackson Madsen, but that would it be it for the Tigers in the inning.

Minico got an RBI single from Drake again in the 7th inning as insurance and would go on to win.

Minico faces Vallivue Friday May 18th at 7 P.M.

Idaho falls will face Sandpoint at 1 P.M. Friday, May 18th.
