New equipment being used for gel manicures

Earlier this week we told you about gel manicures. We spoke with a dermatologist about how it may increase the risk for skin cancer. Since then, a local nail technician reached out to tell us about new equipment salons are using.

Dermatologists say that the exposure from UV lamps could up the risk of cancer. She says those UV lights are rarely being used in most places.

“Because they are being replaced, UV is being replaced with led because they’re safer, more efficient, and they cure better,” says Jewelene Lane, Nail Technician at Blades Salon and Spa in Pocatello.

Lane also says most salons have fingerless gloves in case clients are worried about having their hands exposed.
