Teton County names Undersheriff

Teton County, Wyoming Sheriff Jim Whalen has formally named Lieutenant Matt Carr as his Undersheriff. The appointment is effective June 1, 2018.

In that role, Carr will assume a greater management position within the Sheriff’s Office. He will have increased authority and more involvement in overall decision-making. He has been second-in-command to Whalen for the past year.

“I’ve spoken with Lt. Carr about this change, and he is excited about the opportunity and dedicated to his duty,” said Sheriff Whalen. “He is qualified and competent, and will continue to serve our community well.”

Whalen said that, due to family health issues, he would likely be out of the office more frequently. He felt naming an undersheriff would ensure operational stability in his absence.

Carr has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 20 years and served in a variety of supervisory assignments.

“I’m honored by the opportunity, and I look forward to the new challenges that the position will bring,” Carr said.
