Police in Custer County investigate string of overnight break-ins

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify a man they believe is responsible for a string of break-ins in the county early Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office said between about midnight and 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning, three businesses in the Mackay area were broken into and money was stolen. The businesses affected were M&C Lube, Burger Time and Amy Lou’s Steakhouse.

Then from about 2:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., three businesses in Challis were also broken into and money was taken. Those businesses were Lone Pine Animal Hospital, Surefire and Challis Lanes.

Police said from surveillance photos and videos, the man they are looking for is described as being in his 50s. He’s about 5′ 11″ and weighs approximately 300 pounds. He is balding with some facial hair. Police said he also drives a four-door Sudan model car.

Anyone who recognizes the man, or has information that could help in the investigation, is asked to call the Custer County Sheriff’s Office at 208-879-2232.
