Learn to swim like a mermaid at Blackfoot pool

Bingham Memorial Hospital donated $1,000 to the Blackfoot Municipal Swimming Pool in hopes to save the pool.

The money was used to purchase shark fins and mermaid tails to bring a new fun experience to the pool called Fin Fun.

The Fin Fun class allows users to experience swimming like a mermaid though swimmers will need to demonstrate basic swimming skill before putting on the fins.

“We’re hoping it will bring a younger generation to the pool,” said Jeanette Spears, pool manager. “Right now we are lacking in that area, we don’t have a lot of younger kids. We have some really young kids that do a lot of swimming lessons the kind young teens we don’t see, so we are hoping that we’ll attract that demographic here to the pool and we’ll see our participation numbers go up.”

Classes begin June 13 at 9 a.m. They will also be held on June 14 and 15.
