Cattlemen’s Bridge now slated for weekend opening

More information to come.

ORIGINAL:

The Cattlemen’s Bridge will open to single-lane traffic beginning Wednesday.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation and Teton County closed the old bridge while a temporary bridge was built to carry traffic. But, the temporary bridge was closed in late May because of unsafe conditions. Officials feared catastrophic failure due to scouring and sinking of one of the structure’s piers.

Instead, WYDOT, the county, and contract crews from Reiman Corporation chose to accelerate work on the new structure.

Much of the concrete work has now been completed, including the deck and both approach slabs. Officials are now waiting for the concrete to cure and gain strength. A bridge rail has been constructed on the west side and is being prepared on the east side. Roadways are being prepared with a crushed base and should be complete by Wednesday.

A temporary signal will operate to allow traffic to go down the center of the bridge while work continues on it.

“Recent weather has held up production somewhat, as well as availability of concrete, said WYDOT Resident Engineer Bob Hammond. “But the bridge will be open to single lane traffic by the end of the day on Wednesday. We don’t have a set time.”

Reiman Corp. won a $3.8 million construction contract last October. It is located on Spring Gulch Road north of Jackson. It is part of WYDOT’s off-system bridge replacement program.
