Fourth of July traffic reminder

The fourth of July is right around the corner. The city of Idaho Falls has a reminder for you.

With all of the events going on be prepared for traffic. Having patience and following traffic rules are key to having a fun and successful holiday.

“A lot of people from a lot of agencies doing a lot of planning to get people out of there as safely and as quickly as possible. And I think the thing we want to encourage people to remember is just please be patient, it’s going to take some time so plan accordingly. If you have young children maybe have some games some videos in the car to keep them entertained while you’re waiting to get out of there,” says Bud Cranor, public information officer for the city of Idaho Falls.

They also stress not to move barricades. They’re there for a reason and can disrupt traffic. South Tourist Park and Ryder Park will be closed to vehicles.

They also ask that you wait until 6 a.m. the morning of the holiday to reserve spots. When reserving spots, you’re asked not to use stakes as they could cause damage to sprinkler systems. If you reserve a space at a city park before the allotted time your stuff may be moved. If your belongings are moved you can pick them up at the Parks and Recreation Department.

There will be police and firefighters on bikes and mini ambulances for your safety. There will also be a command post for law enforcement.
