Woman killed, 6 juveniles injured in Idaho collision

A woman died and six juveniles were taken to hospitals with minor injuries following a collision in central Idaho between a car and a passenger van that was part of a youth rafting trip.

Authorities tell KTVB-TV that 30-year-old Kristine Stapleton of Nampa died at the scene after failing to yield and turning onto State Highway 55 at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Idaho State Police say a passenger van driven by 22-year-old Rivers Cornelson of Charlotte, North Carolina, with one adult passenger and 12 juvenile passengers, struck Stapleton’s 1997 Nissan Altima.

Police say Stapleton and all occupants in the van were wearing seatbelts.

Police say the area is busy in the summer with tourists and adventure seekers, many attracted by whitewater rafting on the Payette River.
