No charges filed against officers involved in Blackfoot shooting

Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney Cleve Colson announced Friday no criminal charges will be filed against any law enforcement officers for the officer-involved shooting that led to the death of Jacob T. Eldridge in Blackfoot on May 11, 2018.

“I have concluded that the shooting was a justified use of deadly use of necessitated by the threat Mr. Jacob T. Eldridge posed to a female victim of a hostage situation and stabbing, as well as the threat that he posed to law enforcement and the public,” said Colson.

Blackfoot Police Department officers responded to the residence at 1280 S. Broadway Street where a 24-year-old man was holding a 20-year-old woman against her will around 10:45 p.m. on May 11.

Officers report Jacob T. Eldridge did not comply with officers’ commands and stabbed the woman.

Officers then used lethal force and fired their weapons to stop Eldridge from further injuring the victim.

Eldridge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was treated and released.
