UPDATED: SWAT called in after shots fired at residence in Panorama Hills area

UPDATE 6/24/18 2:45 P.M.: Police have identified the suspect as 39-year-old Colin Dean, of Idaho Falls.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said around 8:20 p.m. Saturday night, deputies were called to a residence near Foothill Road and Panorama Drive for a report of a domestic disturbance between family members.

Police said an intoxicated male had threatened family members with a shotgun and at least one shot was fired.

Police said Dean was in the residence with his two young children and was making threats to shoot law enforcement if they approached.

“Part of the information they got while they were in route or when they got there was if law enforcement approached the house he would shoot at them, so our SWAT team was called and activated. And also, because of the geography of the area and manpower, we also activated the Idaho Falls PD SWAT team,” says Sgt. Bryan Lovell.

Bonneville County SWAT responded and created a safe perimeter, then started communicating with Dean.

Dean eventually tried to leave the home and headed toward a nearby vehicle. SWAT was able to take him safely into custody. The children were found safe inside the residence and returned to family members.

No one was injured.

Dean is being held in the Bonneville County Jail and is charged with felony aggravated assault.

The sheriff’s office said more potential charges are pending while the investigation continues.
