Idaho Falls High School Head Volleyball coach holding clinic

Idaho Falls high school head volleyball coach Laurel Craynor is putting on a specialized skills clinic for kids from the 4th-12th grade levels for the next three weeks.

For the next three weeks kids will learn how to set, serve, hitting, defense and some game play.

Craynor is in her second year as head coach for the volleyball team at Idaho Falls High School.

This is her first year putting on the clinic and says she feels kids can get more out of it than doing an open gym, which is what she did last year.

“We decided to the skills clinic this year instead of open gym, so open gyms in the past last year I just didn’t feel they were very productive, girls in and out all summer, hard to get in the gym, we were closed out of the gym all of July, so we played outside so I just didn’t love the feel, how it all went,” says Craynor, “but this year I thought maybe we could get on a specific training on each skill and maybe I could get more kids in the gym and get them a little more used to my system.”

This is a clinic for everyone in the 4th through 12th grades. It is not limited to Idaho Falls High School students or residents.

She tells Sportsline she has had a Skyline High School student sign up as well as one from Blackfoot.

She adds it is a great opportunity for younger kids to learn the game and know what they are getting into early on and can be ready for the high school level.

She also says there are personal benefits for some athletes who play volleyball.

“I think for sure, for me, I’m a sports advocate, you know I was a three sport high school athlete, I played Volleyball in college, so for me it wasn’t just about volleyball, I learned, so many things, leadership skills, time management skills, all from just playing sports, so to me yeah and there’s life time friendships. ” says Craynor.

Coach Craynor says anyone can still sign up.

The events take place July 5th, 10th, 12th, 17th and 19th.

There is a cost for doing the sessions. It’s $20 for one session, $75 for all six sessions.
