Man accused of trying to lure girls sentenced to prison

A southwestern Idaho man has been sentenced to nearly 40 years in prison for trying to lure children into his car.

The Times-News reports 41-year-old Chad McLean of Caldwell was arrested last September after three Twin Fall girls told their parents that a strange man tried to talk to them. One girl said McLean had offered her a ride while she was walking home from school.

Police identified McLean as a suspect after he was arrested in Caldwell under similar charges.

McLean pleaded guilty in April to three counts of attempted sexual abuse of a child under 16. He was initially charged with three additional counts of attempted kidnapping.

Judge Benjamin Cluff sentenced McLean to up to 37 ½ years in prison. He will be eligible for parole after 18 years.
