Bingham County unveils Patriot Field monument

The major military service agencies, POW-MIA, state and local officials were on hand Wednesday to unveil the new Patriot Field in Blackfoot.

Bingham County officials said the memorial will feature the names of about 100 Bingham County people who were either killed or listed as missing in action during service to the country.

The newly designed Bingham County flag was also revealed.

Ben Hammond, an Idaho native, has been commissioned to sculpt a statue that will ultimately be placed at the memorial as a tribute to all those who have served.

Bingham Memorial Hospital donated $20,000 towards the cost of that statue in 2016, launching a drive to raise another $80,000 to pay for the work. Idaho Central Credit Union donated $20,000 towards the project this May.

The memorial is located at 355 North Ash in Blackfoot.

Anyone interested in making a donation towards the project can find more information here.
