Madison County graduate wins national award

A Madison County Hgh School graduate got a pretty awesome goodbye gift. Dillan Egbert won the national Banking and Finance Award for the Business Professionals of America.

He was presented his award today while he was at work, just in time before he leaves on his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He says he was surprised he won.

“There’s so many smart kids across the country in BPA and I didn’t doubt myself but it was really like ‘this is a long shot just try your best.’ So I didn’t really have the best mindset going in and I definitely wasn’t expecting to win and when I found out that I won I was definitely ecstatic. It was pretty surprising to me. I was already home in Rexburg, we didn’t stay for the awards just because we had to go home,” says Egbert.

He says his job at Freeman’s Clothing in Rexburg helped a lot. He says that’s a big part in why he felt like he won.

“A lot of the stuff on the test I learned in here. He’s let me in on a lot of things that not a lot of high schoolers would be involved in. I know a lot about the cost of everything in here.”

Dillan would also like to thank his advisors for Business Professionals of America and his family. He leaves for his mission I six days and will be going to the Philippines. He plans to keep pursuing business.
