Electrifying museum exhibit brings in a crowd

The Museum of Idaho’s Discover Steampunk exhibit is still in full swing. To help promote the gallery, Idaho Falls power stopped by to highlight the electricity that goes into it.

“Idaho Falls Power is really excited to be one of the sponsors for the Steampunk exhibit here are the Museum of Idaho,” said Joelyn Hansen, the customer supervisor relations manager for Idaho Falls Power. “We’re specifically sponsoring the Mary Shelley gallery, which I don’t want to be biased, is probably one of the best galleries here at the museum exhibit.”

The exhibit focuses on electricity. The utility brought some demonstrations, like bikes to charge your phone and a water wheel, to teach visitors hands-on how hydroelectricity and electrical circuits work.

“It’s an opportunity for people to learn a little bit more about electricity,” Hansen said. “As well, learn a little bit more about Idaho Falls Power.”

This exhibit features the work of Frankenstein, who is celebrating it’s 200th anniversary.

“An incredibly important book that really talks about the use of electricity to animate life,” said Jeff Carr the public information officer for the Museum of Idaho. “In the gallery we have a number of great artifacts that talk about Mary Shelley, Frankenstein and other electrical things.”

The gallery has interactive stations that highlight amperage, voltage, and magnetism.

This gallery, along with the other parts of Discover Steampunk exhibit, will stay at the museum of Idaho until January of 2019.

Idaho Falls Power says they gave out about 200 tickets to the Museum of Idaho for this weekend.
