Excessive heat warning and heat advisory for Monday
The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued an Excessive Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory for Monday, July 9th.
The Advisory is for the Southern Snake River Plain and Cache Valley. The Heat Warning has been issued for the Magic Valley.
“Very warm temperatures in place tonight through Monday night. In some locations tonight, overnight lows may not drop below 70 degrees. Daytime highs on Monday are forecast in the middle to upper 90’s. This time of year, these temperatures are very much above normal, and are expected to be problematic for many people. Therefore, an Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for the Eastern Magic Valley. A Heat Advisory is in place for the Lower Snake River Plain, the South Central Highlands, and the Idaho portion of the Cache Valley. These headlines run from midnight tonight to midnight Monday night.”
HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO MIDNIGHT MDT MONDAY NIGHT:
* TEMPERATURE…Many locations will see well above normal temperatures tonight through Monday night. Lows may remain near or above 65 degrees, with highs on Monday in the mid to upper 90s.
* IMPACTS…People that are sensitive to heat may experience difficulty. These temperatures may be hazardous to those that are outside exposed to the sun.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water..
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
