Rexburg Heptathlete putting on track clinic

A Rexburg heptathlete is home for the summer and is bringing a track and field clinic to Eastern Idaho in hopes to share her love of the sport with others.

Chari Hawkins attended Madison High School, and took her talents to Utah State University and later the University of Bath to continue her studios for her masters.

She started participating in Track and Field in high school and immediately fell in love with the sport since then.

She is hoping to give back to the community and help any athletes in track improve their skills.

“I think that track is a sport that is so adventagious for the youth and teh community and for high school students, I didn’t know it had existed until I started doing it, and once I did it, I fell in love with the community and I really love my hometown and I really wanted to do something for the youth of the community,” says Hawkins, “and I was really excited to share everything I learned cause track is hard sometimes, so I’ve been excited to share what I learned the physical and mental aspects of track and bring it home to my community.”

Hawkins is working on her own goals right now to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

She says she has learned a lot from the sport of Track and Field and hopes to teach not just the physical aspects of the game, but the mental aspects as well.

“, I would say that track is a mental sport, and I really want to talk to them about never giving up on your dream, because I got told a lot that I wasn’t good enough, that I wasn’t tall enough, I didn’t have the right body type for a Heptathlete and I knew, that I had the ability to do something great,” says Hawkins “I know that these kids also know they have the ability to do something great they just need to be aware that they can reach any goal that they want. This camp is called follow your dreams camp, and the biggest part about it is teaching kids that they, no matter what they choose to do as long as they are following their dreams and pushing themselves to their goals life is awesome and they are going to do great. “

Chari’s clinic takes place July 25th to the 27th, if you would like to sign up for it you can head over to Chari’s website, www.charihawkinsusa.com
