Former Wednesday’s Child shares adoption success story
For nearly three decades Local News 8 brought viewers Wednesday’s Child reports each week — stories of children in temporary foster care waiting to be adopted into a permanent loving home. Sometimes viewers were touched and ended up adopting the child and changing their life.
Eight years ago, 12-year-old Cassie was featured on Wednesday’s Child. She explained how much she wanted to be adopted.
“That would mean the world for me,” Cassie said. “It would be absolutely amazing if there was actually a real family out there that cared for me and didn’t care for other stuff that shouldn’t belong in this world.”
We reconnected with Cassie recently in Portland and asked her what happened after she was on Wednesday’s Child.
“I went up for adoption and my parents actually found me on your TV show,” Cassie said. “My parents saw me and didn’t second guess anything and called.”
With her new family Cassie’s life changed for the better.
“And I just grew an extremely close bond with my parents,” Cassie said. “I can’t even imagine living without my parents to this day. I am so thankful for it.”
Cassie credits her adoptive parents with keeping her on the right path. She says she’s never touched drugs and she’s going to college now with plans to become a lawyer like her adoptive mom.
“I love them so much,” Cassie said. “They have taught me so many lessons throughout my life. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without them. I have a forever family. I don’t have to go to bed at night wondering, who am I going to spend Christmas with this year — a different foster family or am I going to get a relative?”
Cassie credits much of her happiness today to being on Wednesday’s Child 8 years ago.
“I just think what you guys are doing is amazing – finding kids homes. I just want to thank you guys for giving me that opportunity,” Cassie said.
