Fire crews respond to new fire northwest of Lava

UPDATE: 4:35 P.M. 7-23

The “Fransen Fire” is reported at three-quarters of an acre. Four fire retardant drops were made from the air.

Two engines and a helicopter will continue to work the fire. All of the other firefighting resources have been released.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Bureau of Land Management is responding to a fire about 3 miles northwest of Lava Hot Springs.

It is currently estimated at about one-quarter acre and burning in juniper.

Five engines, 1 dozer, 1 helicopter, and 2 retardant planes have been dispatched to fight the fire.
