Iona Hill fire caused by lightning

A micro-burst electrical storm created damaging winds and lightning in the Idaho Falls area Wednesday afternoon.Fire Department crews are responding to downed power lines, numerous power outages and downed trees.

Here is a list of calls that the Idaho Falls Fire Department reports appear to have been related to the recent weather.

6:20 p.m. 10530 N 85th E – Electrical Hazard / Wire down 5:30 p.m. 345 Barlow Drive – Electrical Arcing *Tree on the line, smoking and arcing. Lincoln Road – Outside fire *Iona Hill fire 3:29 p.m. 11591 N. 5th E – Electrical Hazard/wire down 3:26 p.m. 650 Linden Drive – Electrical arcing 3:23 p.m. W 33rd N – Electrical Hazard wire/down 3:21 p.m. 1210 Clarence Drive – Electrical hazard/wire down 2:28 p.m. 275 S. Boulevard – Electrical

Sharlyn Richardson shared the following photos of a downed tree on top of a car in Idaho Falls.


There was a fire in Iona Hill, and a fire involving a small trailer at Owens Avenue and East Iona Road.

Firefighters are mopping up hotspots on Iona Hill.

Officials report the fire was caused by lightning from this afternoon’s storm.

It was a small plot of BLM land, and both Idaho Falls Fire Department and BLM responded.

The wind blew the fire to the south, away from the homes.

Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire.

The total acreage burned was approximately 10 acres.

People are asked to stay clear of downed power lines and trees as well as any fires and the fire crews working around them.
