Locals get a Taste of Downtown

Idaho Falls citizens got a taste of local restaurants this afternoon.

The Idaho Falls Taste of Downtown is an opportunity for people to sample downtown restaurants. There were 10 restaurants with booths featuring everything from bagels to tacos, quinoa salad and even oysters. People could buy meal tickets for $1 each and restaurants decided how many tickets their food items cost. The event is a way for the community to support their local restaurants.

“All of our local restaurants are operated by our neighbors and our friends,” said Catherine Smith with the Downtown Development Corporation. “And I think it’s really fabulous to come down and support our community because you’re really supporting a local business that is your neighbor.”

“Well, working at somewhere local versus working somewhere somewhere else, it really feels like a family and a home,” said Sarah Vollmer, who works at Diablas Kitchen. “So when people come and support that it makes you feel really supported by your community and it feels like they’re supporting you and all of the hard work, blood, sweat and tears that you put into every meal and restaurant that you work at.”

This is the 5th year for the Taste of Downtown.
