Cedar Fire reported near Howe

Firefighters from five engine companies formed a 20-person hand crew Sunday to battle the new Cedar Fire on the Dubois Ranger District of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.

The lightning caused fire was estimated at 10 to 15 acres in the Deer Canyon area of the Lemhi Range, about 10 miles northeast of Howe.

The fire was reported at 1:17 p.m. and was burning in steep, rugged terrain involving single and group tree torching.

Firefighters and air resources were working to put up a containment line, but there is no estimate of containment or control.
