W. Wyoming fire danger elevated to high

Fire danger has been elevated to high for Grand Teton National Park, the Bridger-Teton National Forest and National Elk Refuge region.

Hot temperatures, windy afternoons and the summer curing of vegetation have all led to higher potential fire activity. There are no fire restrictions in effect at this time.

So far this year, visitors have abandoned over 40 campfires in the region this summer. Campers can be held liable for suppression costs if their campfire gets out of control and becomes a wildfire.

A high fire danger means fires can start easily and spread rapidly. Fire managers use several indicators to set fire danger, including the moisture content of grasses, shrubs and trees, projected weather conditions, temperatures and possible wind events.
