Grassy Ridge fire now 88 percent contained
As of Tuesday morning, the lightning caused Grassy Ridge Fire is estimated at 103,935 acres (162 square miles) and is 88 percent contained. There were 273 firefighters assigned to the fire manning 22 engines, 8 dozers, 7 water tenders, and 3 helicopters.
According to the Interagency Incident Management Team, the plan for the day was to continue to reinforce containment lines around the perimeter of the fire and around the many large, unburned fuel within the fire perimeter. Weather forecasts call for hot and dry conditions with an increasing chance of thunderstorms overnight and Wednesday.
Crews will also be working to map dozer lines and assess repair work on the fire suppression effort. They hope to return those areas to more natural conditions. They will also construct water diversion structures to help prevent erosion of the fire line.
The A-2 and Red Roads are open for traffic, but motorists should drive slowly and keep an eye out of fire crews working along the roads.
