Crosswalk beacon installed by Hawthorne Elementary School

A HAWK (High-intensity Activated crossWalK beacon) is being installed at 15th Street and S. Boulevard Wednesday.

A HAWK is similar to what was installed on Riverside Drive and Skyline Drive in Idaho Falls.

Officials say it will increase safety for pedestrians crossing South Boulevard in front of Hawthorne Elementary School.

To facilitate and expedite the installation of the HAWK, South Boulevard at 15th Street will be closed Wednesday.

During construction, motorists will be diverted with detour signs to bypass the construction zone.

The HAWK beacon will not be completely installed before school starts next week according to construction workers onsite. They anticipate sometime in September.
