Idaho Falls proposes snow removal funding plan

The Idaho Falls City Council is considering a new plan for keeping the city’s snow removal budget funded.

Under the plan, the council would budget $525,000 per year for snow removal. At the end of the season, any unspent snow removal funds would be put into a designated account until the balance of the account reaches $1 million. The idea is to recommend future city councils continue to budget $525,000 per year or enough to reach the million-dollar balance.

The goal of the plan is to ensure there is enough money in the city budget to pay for snow removal without restricting the use of general cash balances. Any excess funds above the million-dollar balance will be disbursed to the city’s general fund after May 1st of each year.

The city council was scheduled to consider the proposal in a special meeting Monday.
