Garage fire in Jefferson County contained

​​​​​Fire crews in Jefferson County responded to reports of a garage fire late Tuesday night.

The fire broke out around 9 p.m., on the North 100 block of 4400 East, just outside of Rigby.

According to the Central Fire District, The homeowners were cooking popcorn to take with them hunting. They were popping the corn outside and bagging the popcorn in plastic bags. The popcorn was hot and oily from cooking, melted the plastic bags and started a fire in the garage. The homeowners used garden hoses on the fire and had it out before firefighters arrived.

Damage is estimated at around $30,000. The damage was mostly to the contents of the garage and siding.

No injuries were reported.
