Sho-Ban Tribes receive federal grants
The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes will receive $1.6 million in grant awards to improve public safety, serve victims of crime, combat violence against women, and support youth programs. The Nez Perce Tribe in northern Idaho will get $236,687. U.S. Attorney Bart Davis announced the Department of Justice funding.
The Shoshone-Bannock funding includes $750,000 to justice systems and alcohol and substance abuse and $865,900 for a Violence Against Women Tribal Governors program.
“Providing these grants to our tribes in Idaho reinforces that my office and the Department of Justice are committed to protecting and providing victim services to our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Bart Davis. “These resources will help strengthen Idaho tribal communities for years to come.”
The Department of Justice is also in the process of allocating up to $133 million in a first-ever set aside program for victims of crime in Native American communities.
