Closures ordered at Prospect Fire
The Salmon-Challis National Forest has ordered an emergency road and recreation site closure for the Prospect Fire.
The 2,000 acre fire started at around 4 p.m. Tuesday on the Middle Fork Ranger District in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The fire is burning in steep, inaccessible terrain. It is burning actively in the Prospect Creek and Morehead Creek drainages.
A wind shift Thursday drove the fie to the east, crossing to the east of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.
There are eight firefighters and two helicopters assigned to the fire, with additional air support expected Friday afternoon.
The closures include Forest Road 568 (the Boundary Creek Road) about 3 miles north of the junction of Forest Roads 579 and 568 at Bruce Meadows. The area includes Dagger Falls campground, Boundary Creek Campground, and the Boundary Creek Boat Launch.
The closures are intended to protect forest visitors.
