WYDOT discourages US 189/191 traffic

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is asking travelers to avoid US 189-191.

WYDOT has issued a “no unnecessary travel advisory” to allow firefighters to battle the Roosevelt fire.

The highway was opened from Hoback Junction to Daniel Junction, near Bondurant,Thursday night. Pilot cars are currently piloting local traffic on the highway and will continue to do so until 11 a.m. Friday.

Fire crews are expecting a wind event Friday morning. The security of the highway will be re-evaluated at that time. The road is expected to be open again Friday night.

However, officials are asking drivers to find an alternate route if possible. WYDOT will be limiting vehicles to local traffic only.

The agency hopes to have the road completely open by Sunday, depending on fire activity and the success of fire suppression efforts.
