Two men killed when trench collapses

Two men were killed when a trench they were working in collapsed at 120 South Indian Springs Drive in Jackson Friday.

The Teton County, Wyoming, Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Juan Baez-Sanchez and Victoriano Garcia-Perez. The initial cause of death indicated suffocation, although investigation is continuing.

Emergency personnel were called at 3:13 p.m. According to the Sheriff’s Office, one victim was found dead in a 12 to 15 foot deep trench. While workers were recovering the first victim, the second man’s body was found.

“This was a very tragic accident, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” said Teton County Undersheriff Matt Carr.

The men were believed to be working in the trench before it collapsed.

A number of agencies responded to the accident including Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, Town of Jackson Public Works, the Jackson Police Department and the Teton County Coroner’s Office.

An incident command team continued to work at the site until 11:16 p.m. Friday to ensure there were no other victims.
