9-year-old brings gun to confront school bullies

A nine-year-old was arrested Tuesday in Lauderhill, Florida for pointing a gun at fellow classmates.

The third-grader smuggled a loaded 380-caliber handgun into Paul Turner Elementary School in his backpack.

No one was injured when he confronted three alleged bullies and made threatening comments.

“We received a report that a 9-year-old child… Ah… 3rd grader brought a gun to school,” said Yvette Marquez-Perkins, Lauderhill Police Department public information officer. “He took the gun out of his backpack and threatened three of his classmates.”

“This was an isolated incident, that the three children that were threatened with the gun and the child that brought the gun to school had issues that may have been related to bullying, to possible bullying,” said Marquez-Perkins.

Police say mental illness is not a factor in this case.

It is not known yet where he acquired the weapon.
