Madison pipers attend Scottish “tatoo”

The Madison Fire Department’s Pipe Brigade is home after attending the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The band was formed in 2009 to represent the department in a wide variety of public events and activities.

Firefighter bagpiping is rooted in Scottish tradition, so the trip to Edinburgh was significant.
The tradition celebrates the bravery, honor, pride, courage and ultimate sacrifice of firefighters worldwide.

The Madison team members attended the Scottish”Tattoo” August 4th through the 12th.

Current band members include Stan Crittenden, Robert Kohler, Todd Davis and Troyce Miskin.

According to Wikipedia, the term “tattoo” derives from a 17th century Dutch phrase for “turn off the tap.” It is a signal to tavern owners played by a Corps of Drums,” to turn off their ale kegs so solider could retire at a reasonable hour. The Edinburgh event is held each August.
