ARC urges people to donate blood amid national shortage

The nation has a critical shortage of blood according to the American Red Cross.

America’s Blood Control says it’s one of the worst they’ve seen.

This shortage causes the cancellations of surgeries as well as a lack of blood transfusion for those who need it most.

Blood is in high demand in larger cities across the United State.

Thousands of people give blood, however, it isn’t enough to keep up with demand.

Mary Wharff from the American Red Cross in Pocatello, works hard all year long, planning blood drives.

“Coming to donate a unit of blood is really important because there are a lot of surgeries that people need to have, accidents where people lose a lot of blood, and babies need blood some when they’re born,” said Wharff. “If we don’t have them on the shelves when these things happen, someone could die.”

Every two seconds, someone, somewhere, needs blood. And, one donation can save up to three lives.

Therefore, donating blood is critical for the life of another.

If you or someone you know is interested in donating blood, go HERE, click on the “Donate Blood” tab and type in your zip code to find a drive near you.
