Computer virus strikes Idaho Falls School District

The Idaho Falls School District has secured a third-party forensic firm to investigate a computer virus that struck the district last week.

District spokesperson Margaret Wimbourne said the national firm is working to determine the nature and scope of the event, which threatened thousands of computers and servers in the district’s system. It is also working to remediate problems created by the virus as they are discovered.

The district does not know yet if any personal information was impacted, but says people will be notified if that is found to be the case. She said the privacy and security of information is one of the district’s highest priorities.

The investigation is continuing.
