Ammon Fiber wins state recognition

The Idaho Innovation Awards honored Ammon Fiber Optics as its Consumer Product of the Year this month. The program is intended to recognize innovations and entrepreneurs that help drive Idaho’s economy.

The city of Ammon has received national recognition for its next-generation fiber optic connectivity, now known as “the Ammon Model” in the industry. The “model” is built on three key aspects including clear cost separation and transparency for property owners, open access automation that provides end-user control over services, and municipal bond financing to pay for the necessary infrastructure.

The city began providing the service in late 2016. Over 300 homes are now receiving service. Ammon hopes to complete construction by early 2019. That work will make fiber available to about 800 residential properties. Approximately 500 will receive service. A third fiber construction project is slated to begin in 2019 that will bring service to another 500 homes by the end of next year.
