Idaho Falls Airport works to make travel more convenient for locals

The Idaho Falls Regional Airport is working toward making air travel more convenient for locals.

The airport only offers seven direct flights, and as the city of Idaho Falls grows, the new airport director has made it his mission to make air travel more convenient for locals.

This call to action was launched with a traffic retention and leakage study which is traditionally conducted every five years but hasn’t in over 10 years.

“We just completed a leakage study which we pulled ticked passengers in all of the Idaho Falls region where their top destinations were, how many passengers were using the Idaho Falls Airport,” said Idaho Falls Regional Aiport Director Rick Cloutier. “And with that information, we were able to meet with airlines, with the current airlines that we have to add new service plus new and additional new airlines to be able to add new service and provided better and more connectivity for the community.”

From their research, they discovered the top 15 locations visited through air travel by residents in the east Idaho area. Los Angeles, California ranked number one by a landslide. Phoenix Arizona is the second most ranked and Las Vegas, Nevada is third.

Nothing is set in stone just yet, but goals are in place to have these destinations made available for direct flight in the near future.

They are currently networking with several airline services to increase flight and travel options to be ready by next year.

The money for these improvements will come from grants and the federal government, as well as ticket prices.
