Questions answered about FBI facility in Pocatello

Pocatello is going to become the home of an expanded Federal Bureau of Investigation facility.

The expanded FBI building will be built at the corner of Pole Line Road and Yellowstone, but other than that, we don’t know much about it.

Bannock County Development hosted its 27th annual economic symposium Wednesday and featured the Section Chief for the FBI expansion project Mike Malinowski who answered questions about the FBI building and how it will affect our community.

First, people wanted to know if locals will be hired.

“A lot of the government people that will have the opportunity to come out here, may not come out, so there will be some government jobs,” said Timothy Healy, Director of National Security at Buchanan & Edward. “And from our standpoint, we have the opportunity to work with the FBI and do frankly god’s mission and be able to do it in a beautiful place.”

Malinowski also talked about contractor jobs.

“Number 1, we have a great opportunity for our housing contractors, builders, and developers, to support this project, to build homes for the employees that are going to be moving in as well as employees that will be coming from this area,” said John Regetz of the Bannock Development.

There will be employment opportunities for students from ISU as well as surrounding universities.

“There’s going to have to be some new folks that move in that lead the new project and get some of the new employees orientated, but a lot of the raw talent is going to have to come from ISU,” said Regetz.

Senator Mark Nye also attended and feels hopeful and excited for Bannock County’s new addition.

“It’s really excited and a great thing for Pocatello,” said Senator Nye. “There will be new jobs, new people and it will really help the economy. It was a great new basis for higher paying jobs. We’re lucky.”

A few people who voiced their concerns over this new expansion, but the majority there were excited and optimistic about some of the opportunity coming to the area.

Along with contractor jobs and housing developers, an internship program through this FBI expansion will be available for college students.
