Vandersloot backs democrat for State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Melaleuca C-E-O Frank VanderSloot Monday endorsed democrat Cindy Wilson for State Superintendent of Public Instruction. That was a surprise to some because the conservative business leader usually favors republicans.

VanderSloot said he was impressed with Wilson when he talked with her, but said what really made a difference was talking with republican leaders around the state.

” Statewide there are many many people that believe that we need a change and believe that Cindy, who’s reached across the aisle all the way back to prop 2 and has been very, very active getting things done — that she’s a great leader and that she would be a far better choice than our current situation.”

Vandersloot talked about the concerns about current republican superintendent Sherri Ybarra.

“In talking with some of the state leaders I was hearing concerns about work ethic, transparency, and just getting the job done.”

Local News 8 reached out to the Ybarra campaign for reaction and did not get a response from them.
