Idaho inmates injure correctional officer in Texas prison
Idaho prison officials are deciding on possible disciplinary action against 11 inmates housed in a Texas prison after a correctional officer was injured during a group disturbance.
The Idaho Statesman reports the incident took place Friday evening at the Eagle Pass Correctional Facility in Texas, which houses 548 Idaho inmates.
Idaho Department of Correction spokesman says the incident was not a riot, but a disturbance that required the response of a prison tactical unit. Ray says the incident began after correctional officers said they spotted an inmate attempting to steal food from the facility’s kitchen. After the inmate was escorted to his housing unit, other inmates became upset and blocked the entrances to the unit.
Ray says 11 inmates refused to comply with orders to go to their cells and were sprayed with pepper spray. He says one correctional officer sustained an injured shoulder but no inmates were injured.
