House fire causes $225,000 of damages, kills several pets
UPDATE 5 p.m. A fire caused about $225,000 damage to the home of an unidentified elderly couple at 4350 E. 100 North, near Ririe, Wednesday.
Jefferson Central Fire Chief Carl Anderson said firefighters were called out at 1:23 p.m. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flame coming out of the house. They fought down the flame, but the fire continued to burn for about three hours.
Because of the extensive damage, firefighters could not gain entrance to the modified A-frame house. A camp trailer and attached addition were also destroyed.
The homeowners were not home and no people were injured in the fire. However, Anderson said several pets were caught inside and killed by the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it may have been started by hot ashes from a wood stove that were stored near the home.
