Family disturbance leads to arrest

One person was arrested after an altercation near the intersection of Loma Circle and E. 65th South in Bonneville County early Friday.

According to initial reports from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved an altercation between parents and their adult son, which included a shotgun and a large knife resulting in the father receiving a wound from the knife.

The son has been identified as 36-year-old Travis Mazurek.

Officials say deputies had been dealing with disturbances at this same residence over the past couple days where Mazurek was exhibiting strange and violent behavior.

Deputies said the father was able to escape the situation.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was activated, and they found Mazurek had barricaded himself in an upper room of the residence. Deputies were able to secure the rest of the house and occupants and began negotiations with Mazurek.

After a brief period of negotiations, deputies were able to convince him to give up, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and has been booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

The father was treated on scene for a minor cut and was not transported for medical care.
