“Spoof” scam reported in Teton County

A new version of a familiar scam is raising concern in Teton County, Wyoming.

A county resident told the Teton County Sheriff’s Office about a caller who tried to get information regarding the citizen’s health care.

The caller ID showed a phone number that read “Teton County Gov’t:

The Sheriff’s Office advises that scammers can now “spoof” any phone number and make it appear as though the call is coming from a legitimate source.

People are advised to use extreme caution before giving out any personal information.

The Sheriff’s advice; get the caller’s name and the office they are working for. You can then call back a publicly listed phone number.
