Gas leak causes evacuations

UPDATE 12:00 P.M.: The Idaho Falls Fire Department reports evacuations are now lifted.

The cause of the gas leak was due to a contractor who hit a gas line.

Lincoln Road to Chaffin Lane and Woodruff Avenue to Sherry Drive were temporarily closed, but are now open.

Intermountain Gas is working on repairing the line.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department reports evacuations are in place for a gas leak at 1509 Chaffin Lane.

Idaho Falls Power and Intermountain Gas have been notified about the situation and will cut the utilities.

Two fire engines are responding.

The cause of the leak is unknown and an investigation is underway.
