Steamboat Geyser ties historical yearly eruption record

The Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park tied decades-old records when it erupted for the 29th time in 2018 Wednesday.

Yellowstone National Park reports the last time the geyser erupted 29 times was back in 1964. This is the most recorded times the geyser has erupted in a year.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the geyser erupted at 8:37 p.m.

It has been 7 days, 1 hour and 27 minutes since it last erupted.

Over the past few weeks, the geyser has been following a semi-regular pattern of erupting about every five to seven days.

The National Park Service has listed all recorded major eruptions below. Others may have occurred, but were not necessarily seen if there were no observers in Norris Geyser Basin. The intervals range from 4 days to 50 years.
