Fire destroys Rexburg outbuilding

Fire destroyed a pickup and storage shed at 259 South 3rd East in Rexburg Thursday.

Madison Fire Chief Corey Child said two engines and an ambulance responded at 5:56 a.m. No one was hurt.

The homeowner was using the shed to smoke elk meat, said Child. Investigators suspect that “smoking” process caught the homeowner’s pickup, parked adjacent to the shed, on fire. Rexburg Police say the pickup, the shed and items inside the shed were destroyed.

The fire threatened a neighbor’s home, but firemen prevented any serious damage to it.
