Billboard Top 20 recording artist set to perform with elementary school

Choir students at Fox Hollow Elementary will now be able to add “Performed with an eight-time Billboard Top 20 recording artist” to their resume.

Singer-songwriter Margo Rey is making a special appearance at the school’s annual choir concert alongside the TrebleMakers on Tuesday night.

Becky Rhodes, the school’s choir director, contacted Rey on Facebook back in September. She was trying to find the sheet music and track for Rey’s song “This Holiday Night.

“I was shopping at Kohl’s last year and heard her song over the intercom, I’m always in tune for songs that we can sing as a choir,” said Rhodes.

Rey’s publicist then got in touch with Rhodes to get her contact information.

Just a few days later, Rey called Rhodes back herself. She not only helped provide a track and arrange the song for the choir, but FaceTimed the group and said she wanted to come to Idaho Falls to see the performance.

“I am so deeply honored because these types of programs are so important for kids of any age,” said Rey. “It is what propels them forward to maybe having that creative instinct in everything they do, not just the arts.”

More than 60 Fox Hollow students in grades three through six sing in the TrebleMakers choir.

The TrebleMakers will perform “This Holiday Night” alongside Rey. According to Rey, it is the No. 1 most played original holiday song of the last six years.

“It’s blown me away,” Rhodes said. “This kind of thing doesn’t happen everyday. I’m just touched that she would make this effort to spend her time and talents with us. This will be something (the children) will never forget– a Christmas gift they’ll honestly never forget.”

In addition, Rey will also perform a song off her newest album, “The Roots of Rey.”

The choir concert starts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night at the Eagle Rock Middle School auditorium.
